About our group ....
Nottingham Heritage Vehicles, formerly known as the Notts & Derby Heritage Transport Group, was formed in 2001 by a small team of dedicated local enthusiasts with the express aim of preserving examples of our local transport heritage - namely buses and coaches from the Nottingham area.
We are currently struggling to raise much needed funds to facilitate the restoration of the more major projects and to secure a more sustainable financial future for the collection - which is at present all privately owned and funded. Many projects require investment upward of £15,000, so naturally any means of assistance are being sought.
We are actively promoting the use of our vehicles to carry promotional adverts for local companies as a means of generating restoration funds. In addition to this we have now established an online sales shop via ebay along with operating our revamped sales / exhibition unit at many events nationwide.
Sadly all this activity pulls the team (all 6 of us !) away from active restoration - so please - if you can help in any way, shape or form please make contact with us.
Our collection includes the oldest surviving rear engined Nottingham City Transport double decker Leyland Atlantean ETO 452C rescued from an uncertain future at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. This vehicle has undergone major structural rebuilding during the past six months with a view to returning it to a roadworthy condition in 2010 after 28 years in a semi-derelict state.
Although we dont, at present, have museum premises open to the public, we approach the hobby by way of providing a mobile museum exhibiting examples from our collection at a number of events nationwide, throughout the year. Without groups such as ourselves taking the time and effort to restore such vehicles, little would be left for future generations in years to come.
The last of Leyland Motors exposed radiator, sunken gangway PD3's has also joined the fold having been donated to the group by the Dabell family - the former owners of the South Notts Bus Company. We are actively encouraging any financial support towards this project.
Remember - If you feel you can assist, in any way, towards helping us achieve our aims, then please make yourself known to one of our members at one of the many events we attend. We can easily be located on-board our exhibition and fund-raising vehicle, former Nottingham City Transport Leyland National GAU 728L.
We look forward to meeting you at Wollaton Park, Nottingham 6th of June 2010 for the regions largest Bus & Coach gathering
Come and find out a little more onboard our sales & exhibition vehicles at a rally near you. For a list of those we are attending please see the link on our home page.
